How To Get There?

The start of the trail is just outside of the main Ubud town and it is easy to walk along the streets to reach it. When you arrive it is a little hidden up the road but it is easy to follow the direction of others to the Temple entrance.

The entrance is situated in a peaceful Temple and the intricate stone statues and sculptures are absolutely beautiful. The hanging vines and smell of incense are a perfect calming and spiritual way to start the hike.

From there you carry on up some stone steps and then you are straight on the trail.

Best Time To Visit?

Bali has a tropical climate all year round and with that comes high temperatures and humidity. The Dry Season runs through April to October and is a great time to visit Bali. But do not be put off by the Rainy Season: November to March, as the rain is usually only in short bursts and can be avoided.

There really is no best time to do this walk based on the seasons, however we highly recommend heading out to the trail as early as you can because as the day goes on the heat increases and it is much more comfortable to walk earlier on.

We think heading out around sunset would be beautiful too but be careful to head back to the main town before it gets too dark.

How Long Is The Hike?

The walk is only short and it is easy to turn around and head back on yourself at any point. The walk is not circular so you can go for as far or little as you want.

Overall the most common walk is around 2 hours at most.

How Difficult Is The Hike?

The hike itself is relatively uphill and starts with many steps from the Temple grounds where it starts. It is not hard otherwise and the path is mostly flat and causes no issues. The walk should be suitable for anyone with average to good health.

The only issue is of course the heat but if you are careful and protect yourself then it should be safe and easy.

The Views

The main offer of this walk is the views that are created by the valley and the greenness of the surrounding environment.

There are plenty of cascading rice terraces too which are so peaceful and awe inspiring. We loved that the trail was not too crowded and we could really take in the surrounding nature.

Restaurants

A certain section quite near to the top of the trail has a lot of small Warungs (a small local eatery) that offer hot meals and more importantly cold drinks.

The prices seem quite reasonable and similar to that of places in town. And if you need a small break or an end goal then it is nice to sit down and rest the legs

What You Should Pack

  • Water is an absolute must as the ridge is raised and there is not a lot of shade covering the path in some parts. Make sure to stay hydrated as the sun is very strong.
  • Of course sun tan lotion and for all the same reasons as we have just mentioned. Plus the UV rays are very strong in Indonesia and skin protection is very important.
  • On the same theme a sun hat is always good for an extra layer of protection.
  • We would suggest wearing suitable shoes such as a pair of trainers or comfortable sandals. The path can be a little unstable and bumpy in parts. You most likely don’t need walking boots but flip flops and sliders are not as suitable.
  • The last thing we advise you to bring is a camera as the views cannot be overstated. And it would be such a shame to not have these as memories

Conclusion

Campuhan Ridge Walk is one of the best things you can do in Ubud and is on our top list of activities in Bali. Make sure you take care and take some amazing pictures of the beautiful views.
